Riverfest 2012.

Parteen GAA will be defending their 2011 Riverfest BBQ crown this Sat 5th May under the team name "The Banner Boys from Parteen" and there will be loads of entertainment and sport to be had at the BBQ venue along the Quay in front of the Locke bar from 11.00 a.m. on Saturday. If there is anyone from the club or parish who would like to help out for an hour or two on the day please let me know.
We will need some helpers with the set up approx from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and then with the cooking and general merriment from about 12.00 noon on-wards.
In particular if there are any willing BBQers and also experts on the transportation of large bottles of cider in a smokey environment they would be most welcome!
We have received generous sponsorship from Fran O Donnell for the team entry and we hope to do a little fundraising on the day. Fran and his crew have promised another great event and maybe lightening will strike twice!
Derek Kenny.

U 21 Challenge
Parteen     0-11
Claughaun 0-12

By Cool Stephen Kinsella.

Parteen had their first run out by themselves in an entertaining
encounter away from home. The game which was played in schizophrenic
weather as the match became difficult for both sides. However, both
sides were determined to prove their worth to their respective
managements and both fought tooth and nail for everything. Parteen
made a decent start to the game defending well and looking to supply
the ball into the forwards. However it was unfortunate that many
passes were not going to hand and many chances were lost as a result.
David Small was having a good game and was accurate from dead ball
situations and Kevin McGleenan scoring a sensational point after a
solo run down the right wing to keep Parteen in the contest as their
clinical opponents began to stretch ahead. At the interval Parteen
trailed by 0-08 to 0-06. Parteen came out riled up for the second half
after a rousing speech as always from PJ and automatically scored
after a sensational point from Cian McCarthy from an acute angle. The
second half was very nip and tuck with Parteen began to dominate in
defence, however losing too much ball from puck outs to build a
platform. Claughaun snuck a late point to win, however Parteen have
many positives to look on and several players to return to the panel
before Tubber in a few weeks.

Intermediate Challenge
Parteen        1-10
Ballinahinch 1-15

Parteen succumbed to a disappointing defeat at home after a poor
second half performance. Parteen came out of the traps flying and the
fans were in ecstasy after the first two scores of the game were two
of the best you will see anywhere both accredited to Brian McSweeney.
The first came after a sensational short passing move where
Ballinahinch could not cope with Parteen’s pace and Sweeney was on
hand to slot over. The second one was a superb solo effort as Brian
went on one of his trademark solo runs before selling a sublime dummy
and then finishing off. However, Ballinahinch were beginning to use
their extra strength and began to force themselves into the affair. It
began to turn into a tedious affair, with the heavy pitch not aiding
to the spectacle. At the interval the sides were level at 7 points a
piece. Parteen made a dream start to the second half, with Sweeney
winning the throw-in before popping the ball off to Joe O’Connor who
ran through the middle before passing off to Ivan Conway who from a
tight angle blasted the ball past the face of the keeper into the top
left corner. However it was all downhill from there as their
counterparts began to take over. Many changes were made to the side as
the management tried to test out a few new options, however it was to
no avail as Ballinahinch eased to victory.
Parteen: Alan Murnane (6), Jason Smith (6), Paul O’Dwyer (7), David
O’Sullivan (6), Colm O’Connell (7), Philip Lavin (7), Pa Campion (6),
Brian McSweeney (8), Andrew Beatty (5), Ronan Conlon (6), ivan Conway
(6), James Long (6), Darragh Yelverton (5), Mark Boland (5), David
Small (6) Subs: Joe O’Connor, Donal Prendergast, Cian McCarthy, Paul
McDonald, Conor Boyce, James Fox

Man of the Match: Brian McSweeney really stood out making a few
dazzling run to brighten up a dour day.
Score of the Day: Sweeney’s two points were both good, but the second
solo effort deserves a special mention for a dummy and a side-step
that you cannot buy.
Talking Point: Great to see Colm O’Connell return and play well
